Biology · GCSE, A Level
First Class Biology graduate and AQA specialist, focused on the exam technique that turns knowledge into marks.
About
I'm a First Class Biomedical Sciences graduate from the University of Bristol, and I have been tutoring AQA Biology for over four years. In that time I have seen the same pattern again and again: students understand the content, but lose marks because of AQA's specific mark schemes and demanding exam technique. I focus on more than the content. I teach students how to apply what they know in the exam, with a clear understanding of exactly what AQA is looking for. I achieved an A* in A-Level Biology and have stayed fascinated by the subject ever since, especially immunology and disease, which I studied in more depth at university. When I start with a student, the first thing I do is find the key places they are losing marks, which is often exam technique rather than subject knowledge. AQA mark schemes are precise, so I put a lot of emphasis on past-paper questions, phrasing answers well and learning exactly how to hit the mark points. I use active recall, quick-fire quizzes and clear diagrams and flowcharts to break down difficult topics, and I teach students to think like an examiner so their answers match what is expected. We work through a large bank of exam-style questions and official mark schemes together to build confidence over time. If your goal is to move from understanding the content to acing the exam, that is exactly what I specialise in, and I would love to help.
