A company built around great teaching.
Specialist, not generalist
You teach one thing and you teach it brilliantly: AQA Biology, GCSE and A-Level.
Your teaching goes further
Every student you tutor also has Phlo AI for practice between sessions, so your lessons build on real work, not forgotten homework.
Flexible and online
Tutor from home, around your own commitments.
Well paid, and paid for what you are worth
We charge premium rates because we deliver premium results, and our tutors are paid accordingly.
We find the students
You focus on teaching.
The bar, and how to clear it.
You will need
- Deep AQA Biology knowledge. Not just biology, but the specification: the topics, the required practicals, the command words, and the Paper 3 synoptic essay.
- Excellent grades in the subject you teach. An A or A* in A-Level Biology, and a strong biology or biomedical degree (2:1 minimum).
- Real tutoring experience, with results. Tell us how many lessons you have taught and the grade improvements you have helped students achieve.
- Exam technique, not just content. Most marks are lost on how an answer is written, not what the student knows. You need to be able to teach the mark scheme, not just the biology.
- The ability to explain clearly to a teenager. Warm, patient, and able to make hard ideas click.
- Reliability and professionalism. You turn up, you communicate, and you work within our channels.
Practical requirements
- Able to tutor online, with a reliable connection, appropriate equipment, and a quiet, suitable space.
- Availability that works for students, typically after school, evenings, and weekends, with more demand around exam season.
- The right to work in the UK.
Nice to have
- Qualified teacher status, or experience as an AQA examiner.
- Experience supporting students with SEND.
- Able to teach both GCSE (Combined and Triple) and A-Level.
Keeping students safe comes first.
Phlo tutors work with children, so these are requirements, not preferences. Before you tutor a single student, you will need:
- A current enhanced DBS check, including the children's barred list check.
- References, which we will take up and check.
- Proof of identity and your qualifications.
- To read, understand, and agree to our safeguarding policy and tutor code of conduct.
Every Phlo lesson is delivered online, with a parent or carer present in the home and within earshot for the whole session. You can read our full safeguarding policy here.
Four steps to your first students.
Send us your CV and a short note telling us about your AQA Biology teaching, your own results, and the grade improvements you have helped students achieve.
If it looks like a fit, we will have a conversation.
You will do a short teaching assessment. We will ask you to teach a tricky AQA topic and mark a sample answer, because we hire on how you teach, not just what is on your CV.
Checks and onboarding, then your first students.
We hire slowly and we set the bar high, because our tutors are the company. If that sounds like you, get in touch.
Send us your application.
Share your CV or a link, tell us about your AQA Biology teaching and the results you have helped students reach, and we will take it from there.
