AQA GCSE Biology flashcards

Written for AQA GCSE Biology (8461), topic by topic, with the required practicals in their own deck. The bold words on every card are the exact mark-scheme key words that earn the marks.

5 decks · 290 cards in total

These decks follow the AQA GCSE Biology specification (8461) rather than a general GCSE syllabus. The topic numbering matches AQA, the marking points are taken from AQA mark schemes, and the examiner traps are the mistakes AQA examiners report year after year. If you sit Edexcel or OCR, these are the wrong decks and the Edexcel ones are linked below.

Each card gives a question on the front and the marking points on the back, with the mark-scheme key words in bold. Where a wording loses marks in the real exam, a tutor tip on the card says so. The required practicals are kept separate from the topic decks, because AQA examines them as their own strand and most students revise them separately.

Every deck is a one-time payment with lifetime access, and the first three cards of each are free to read before you buy.

1.1.1 Eukaryotes and prokaryotesDefinition
Question
Describe the genetic material in a prokaryotic cell.
Answer
  • A single loop of DNA, not enclosed in a nucleus
  • May also contain one or more plasmids, which are small additional rings of DNA
Tutor tip
Plasmids are 'additional' rings. Saying a bacterium's DNA is only in plasmids loses the mark.
